College-Related

San Diego Promise Application

The San Diego Promise covers the cost of tuition for up two years at San Diego City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges, and provides textbook grants of $400 per year to students who also qualify for a fee waiver (the California College Promise Grant, formerly known as the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver).

Who qualifies for the San Diego Promise? 

  • Must be a first-time to college student (student who completed college courses while in high school are eligible)

  • Must be a class of 2022 high school graduate (H.S. Diploma or GED) OR identify with one of the following groups:

    • Foster Youth Student

    • Veteran of U.S. Armed Forces Student 

    • Formerly Incarcerated Student

    • Undocumented Student

  • Must be a California resident or AB 540 eligible

  • Must Complete a 2022-2023 financial aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act)

  • Must be prepared to enroll in a minimum of 12 units each semester (does not apply to students with disability (DSPS) accommodation on file)

This is an opportunity to attend a virtual program for high school students that want to improve their financial literacy, understand generational wealth, and explore entrepreneurship.

Software Programmer

Mid-City CAN (Community Advocacy Network)

Youth Council: ages 13-18, apply to create change in their local Black, Indigenous, and Communities of Color. One of the things the Youth Council is currently working on is Support Youth Voices on the Commission on Police Practices


Summer Artivism Program: A free 3-week summer program for students ages 13-18 that will focus on learning about movement artists and completing hands-on projects! Fill out their interest form or contact Yasmeen Obeid.

Y Teen Achievers (Y-TAP)

The YMCA Teen Achievers Program (Y-TAP) aims to creating safe spaces for teens in San Diego’s City Heights and neighboring communities. The program includes tutoring, computer lab access, dinner, Urbanlife Rooftop Garden opportunities, field trips, Workshop Wednesdays and Fun Friday activities!

Y-TAP offers qualifying teens a free, year-long YMCA membership as long as requirements surrounding school attendance, physical activity, community service and well-being are met and/or exceeded. 

​

Eligible students must be ages 13-17. 
Complete monthly goals and stay current with academic meetings to maintain their membership.

Library NExT

Library NExT (Network of Education x Training) is a series of workshops for elementary, middle and high school students on topics including robotics, circuits, Quest for Space: Heat Experiments on the ISS and 72 + other STEAM courses. This San Diego Public Library program is a collaboration with UC San Diego Extension and Sally Ride Science. Registration opens approximately one month prior to course date. If supplies are needed for a course you will receive an email directing you to a Contactless Pickup Service location to pickup your supplies. Zoom links will be emailed out with reminder email.

Flipster

Flipster is a digital magazine distribution service which lets library patrons access their favorite magazines from a variety of publishers through their local libraries. Accessible via a web browser or custom apps made specifically for Apple devicesAndroid devices, and the Kindle Fire tablet, with Flipster users can download magazines to read offline, anytime, anywhere. San Diego Public Library Virtual Hub

The San Diego Public Library Virtual Hub is a Facebook group where Library Staff and partnering organizations offer daily virtual programs for all ages including: read alouds, crafts & DIY, booktalks, and more! Access to the library buildings is very limited, but the fun never stops in our virtual club. Join and get access to their growing collection of videos and resources.

LivingWorks Start Suicide Prevention Online Training Program

Happy Family

The LivingWorks Start Suicide Prevention Online Training Program helps participants learn to recognize when a young person might be experiencing emotional distress or having thoughts of suicide, and teaches them how support and connect them to professional help.

Youth who complete the LivingWorks Start Program will be empowered to recognize behaviors in others that could indicate emotional distress or thoughts of suicide and know how to connect them to professional help. Community Service Credits are also available to those you who complete the training. 

Outdoor Outreach

Hike

Youth and young adults ages 5-25 from anywhere in San Diego County can adventure with Outdoor Outreach, exploring the outdoors while safely creating friendships, building community, and developing leadership skills for all of life's explorations. This program is FREE and made possible with funding from the County of San Diego.

Registration includes: Transportation to and from activity locations, lunch (weekends) and snacks (afterschool); Recreational and safety equipment; Professional instruction and guided exploration.

Saturday Mathemagician Homework Club

Join the Saturday Mathemagician Homework Club!

If you would like to participate send an email to info@mathemagiciansclub.com. Include in your email, your grade and math concepts you are working on (or share an attachment of your homework).  

 

Their wonderful volunteers will offer help, more practice problems or worksheets. This includes SAT math help as well. They will monitor their email daily so you don’t have to wait until Saturday to ask for help.

Choosing the right college or career pathway is not an easy decision. The UC San Diego Extension Futures programs enable high school students like you to fulfill your passions, explore new interests and gain hands-on experience before you enter the workforce or apply for college. Shape your future today in the areas of Computer Science, Business Management, Design and Life Sciences.

Android Programming

Write Android Applications. Learn how to work with the Android Studio to write numerous Android applications for a wide range of phones and tablets. This includes focus on the Java programming language, understanding various Android permission models, and debugging and troubleshooting Android apps.

Front End Web Dev

Learn to build websites and applications for multiple screen types with an eye toward creating an interactive experience for end users. Become proficient in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery, while gaining skills critical to professional and/or educational success.

AutoCAD

Design like a pro. In AutoCAD, learn to draw on layers, add text, dimensions and plot a drawing at a scale. Gain foundational knowledge in two-dimensional (2D) drawing commands, dimensioning, layering systems, and drafting techniques to develop a complete floor plan by the end of the program.

IOS Programming

Want to design your own engaging, user-friendly mobile app? Become proficient in iOS, a mobile operating system developed by Apple Inc. exclusively for use with its hardware, including iPhone, iPad and iTouch. 

Business Management

Curious to learn about the business world and how to manage logistics and the coordination of activities in an organizational enterprise? Develop a practical understanding of policy creation and resource allocation as a means to achieve institutional objectives.
