Interview Etiquette

Greeting: 

  • Properly address the interviewer by calling him/her "Mr. ____" or "Ms.____"

  • Use a firm handshake to convey confidence and enthusiasm
     

Body Language:

  • Look people in the eye

  • Sit up straight

  • Avoid playing with your hands, pens, legs, etc.
     

Know the Organization:

  • Research the company by looking at the organization's website, annual reports, asking current employees

  • Research the industry and the job position
     

Know Yourself:

  • Be prepared to answer common interview questions, such as:

    • Tell me about yourself

    • What are your strengths and weaknesses?

    • What should i hire you?

Consider using the S/TAR method to structure your responses:

  • Situation/Task: describe the context in which the action took place

  • Action: explain the action you took to handle the situation

  • Result: describe the result or impact of your action
     

Be professional:

  • Dress professionally

  • Bring extra copies of your resume, business card, portfolio, etc.

  • Arrive 15 mins early (not sooner)

  • Turn off or silence your cellphone

  • Answer the questions you are asked, do not deviate too much from the topic

  • Ask questions and take notes

  • Finish strong (even if you think the interview was not what you expected, make a final good impression)

  • Send your interviewer a thank you letter

  • What are your strengths?

  • What are your weaknesses

  • How do you handle stress?

  • Tell me about a time when you were part of a great team.

  • What was your part in making the team effective?

  • How would you describe yourself using three words?

  • Could you share a recent accomplishment of which you are most proud?

  • How do you deal with a difficult customer?

  • Tell me about a time when you dealt with a difficult co-worker

  • What is an example of a client challenge you have faced recently?

  • Where do you see the company going in the next year? 10 years?

  • What is the question you all really want to ask me but haven't?

  • I was looking at your social media presence and i can see that your brands have been more active over the past few months. Has your strategy changed?

  • What would make someone really successful in this role?
